Overview

This session is an introduction into the circus art form of the Hula Hoop we will be finding the flow and learning basic weaves and movements including waist spinning. We will be using the hoop to build stamina, breathwork and floor work and then weave this all together to create some tricks and a final performance piece.

Week one: Finding the flow
We begin with some movements to help you feel comfortably fluid. We shall introduce basic weaves and movements to show that you don’t need to spin on your waist to enjoy hula hooping.
Week Two: Rooting down
Fun ways you and the hoop can interact with the floor without focusing too much on how it looks.
Week Three: Breathe (Air)
Breathwork and stamina are both important components that hula practice can cultivate. In this class, we shall focus on opening up our breathing.
Week Four: (Fire)
More than knowing, hula-hoop involves feeling and embodying your prop with confidence.
Week Five: Join Forces!
In the energy of unifying all aspects of our practice, we shall wrap up with a brilliant but achievable hoop trick to engage your prop from your head to your toes. We shall also briefly revisit the different movements we have worked on so we can piece together a final showcase for the video.

Coronavirus - possible changes
In the event that the government advice changes, a local outbreak of the infection occurs or the facilitator needs to self-isolate, this course will be postponed. In addition, we may increase or decrease the number of available spaces if social distancing advice changes. Scroll down for health and safety information.

Bookings - In line with current government guidance, this course may be postponed, moved to an outside venue or moved online. Please sign up to the course to register your interest and you will be informed about any changes as soon as possible.

Health, Safety and Hygiene

  • The room and hula hoops will be thoroughly cleaned before every session
  • Everyone will have a designated hoop
  • There will be a 2m space between stations
  • The course will be limited to 12 young people - in a space that can normally hold over 40 people
  • Everyone will be asked to wash their hands or use the provided hand sanitiser before entering the room
  • Face coverings are optional as social distancing will be maintained at all times
